This Summer the Tall Ships are coming back to Hartlepool! After the last visit in 2010 a warm North East welcome awaits a fleet of over 30 ships and 1000’s of people as they join in and celebrate at one of the largest FREE maritime events in the UK.

Four days of at atmospheric celebrations will transform Hartlepool’s Waterfront into a spectacular display of music, art, dance and song and of course there’s the Ships!  


Prepare for a weekend of celebrations

Our event site is spread between Hartlepool’s Marina and Victoria Harbour. It will feature two main stages located at Navigation Point (The Navigation Point Stage) and Victoria Quay (X-energy Stage). A smaller stage (The Highlight Stage) which will focus on local community music performers will be located at Jackson’s Landing. Here is an insight of what you can expect…

Four days of Jam packed Music, Dance, PeRformance and PASSION AWAIT YOU...

Along with the world famous tall ships the celebration will feature four days of live music across a number of stages, with indie rock band and North East legends Maximo Park headlining on Friday and the most Iconic Reggae band on the planet, Grammy-nominees, The Wailers, headlining on Saturday.


The Wailers
Experience the magic of their timeless classics and incredible cuts from Bob Marley’s vast repertoire in a set that is truly unforgettable. Under the guidance of Aston Barrett Jr, son of the legendary “Familyman”, The Wailers continue to preserve the legacy of their iconic sound. Now they'll be performing at the Tall Ships Races Hartlepool from 9pm on Saturday 8th July on the X-energy stage.

One of the more enduring bands from the post-punk revival of the early to mid-2000s, Maxïmo Park craft smart, sharply catchy guitar pop songs. Find them on the X-Energy Stage on Friday 7th July.

Walk the Plank, one of the UK’s leading outdoor arts companies, presents The Tower of Light – a spectacular show which will transform Hartlepool’s quayside into a magical theatre of pyrotechnics, performance and music during the Tall Ships Races Hartlepool 2024. The Show will take place on Friday 7th July from 10.20pm at Irvine's Quay.

Dandyism
Choreographer Patrick Ziza’s dance explores African Dandyism as a celebration of style and cool as well as a concern for humanism, gender and identity in our increasingly divided society. There will be multiple performances throughout the weekend.

For the People By the People
Look out for giant puppets leading you to Whippet Up’s hand-crafted puppet theatre. ‘For the People, By the People’ tells ancient and new tales from across the Tees Valley. New for Ships is a heroic local lifeboat story. This family friendly show includes songs performed live on set by Teesside’s rising folk star Amelia Coburn.

The international Tall Ships, small ships and yachts will be sailing from Den Helder in the Netherlands to Hartlepool in North East England, then back across the sea to Norwegian Fredrikstad.

With only a few months to go until the world-famous Tall Ships Races returns to Hartlepool in July 2024, we’re delighted to see many ships signing up for this iconic event. These are the ships signed up so far – more coming soon!
